Burns Monument Appeal
Appeal launched Nov 2008 to raise funds for restoration of the Burns Monument.
Edinburgh World Heritage & Edinburgh City Council have pledged funds for the refurbishemnt, but more money is required.

This delightful edifice is a well-proportioned building with views of Arthur’s Seat.
The design is based on a Greek temple. The cupola copies Lysicrates temple, Athens, Greece.
This structure was built to house Robert Burns statue by Flaxman (now located in the National Portrait Gallery on Queen Street).

Nelson’s Monument replaced an existing mast on Calton Hill’s summit with a signal-tower high enough to be visible to ships on the Forth and commemorates Admiral Lord Nelson’s death at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805.

Dating from 1934-39: inter-war architecture competition win – monolithic, symmetrical and sober from the front, romantically irregular from the South. This building was the Scottish Office, the UK government’s administrative offices in Scotland.
