Edinburgh Financial District Expansion News
The Evening News today report that a massive expansion to Edinburgh’s financial district is set to be built on the site of the Fountain Brewery. The Council have admitted only a fraction of the 11.5-acre site will be needed for the new school.
Aswell as office buildings for an expanded Edinburgh Financial District there would be new homes, a canal boat marina, cafes, bars and restaurants, student housing for Edinburgh Napier University and a public park.
In November we reported that a new Boroughmuir High School may be built on the old Scottish and Newcastle Brewery site at Fountainbridge. The City of Edinburgh Council have just launched a public consultation on the high school renewal proposal.

Boroughmuir High School, Fountainbridge
A new Boroughmuir High School might be built on the old Scottish and Newcastle Brewery site at Fountainbridge after the seller - Lloyds Banking Group - accepted a council bid. Edinburgh City Council has secured preferred bidder status, which means the site will be bought subject to the conclusion of missives. The deal also has to be approved at a full council meeting on 24 November. The purchase, from Lloyds Banking Group, is set to be confirmed before the end of the year. A new HBOS office development had been planned for the site before it was taken over by Lloyds TSB. 10 Nov 2011
Fountainbridge Brewery Approval
Masterplan by Allan Murray Architects for former site of Fountainbridge Brewery approved by planners. The outline scheme is a mixed-use development, including residential, retail, leisure and student housing. Agents for the application are CB Richard Ellis Ltd and Lloyds Banking Group. The redevelopment of the Fountainbridge site could also include the demolition of the listed former North British Rubber Company building, although that would require separate consent. 12 May 2011

"AMA are delighted to have worked with the City of Edinburgh Council to develop their development brief for the Fountainbridge area of Edinburgh. The proposals envisage the creation of a stunning new "urban village" with public squares linking the upgraded and potentially expanded Union Canal with Fountainbridge and the West Approach Road. A diverse mix of uses on the 32 hectares would include residential, commercial, retail, cultural and leisure with underground car-parking freeing up the ground for gardens and high quality pedestrian spaces. The West Approach Road and Fountainbridge would be transformed into a magnificent tree-lined boulevards with wide pavements. The proposals have recently been approved by the CEC"
