"As a project it would probably only be undertaken by Architects as much of the building was in an appalling condition, including 3 huge brick ovens, on which the building stood and which were gradually rotting away.

The architects didn't want an office, but a studio, with its connation of natural light, group working, casual communication and in volume. This type of space was traditionally used by artists and architects, who have to some extent abandoned it for the more standardised vision of office.

The architects attacked the basic failings of the existing space by creating a interplay of levels and opening up floors to allow maximum penetration of natural light from the limited area where windows and rooflights were possible".
