Gazprom Rebuff
Interview in Scotsman with RMJM UK managing director Tony Kettle:
Eiffel Tower referenced at least ten times during a one-hour interview.....re
the Falkirk Wheel "If people aren't very nice to it, that hurts"....Penny
Lewis: "RMJM had strayed from the origins under its socially conscious
founder, Sir Robert Mathew, into becoming increasingly bottom-line driven,
with Kettle "the most commercial component". Tony Kettle responded
"Our critics are living in the past."....and in the Forum: "Tony
Kettle did not design this building - he's a business man, not an architect;
and it was in fact designed by RMJM London". Ref. news item dated

by non-Scottish architects, such as Foster & Partners, Schmidt Hammer

competitions, Gross.Max with work for Hadid in Germany, Allan Murray's
Norwegian & German competition entries, gm+ad in Ireland, various
buildings by Sutherland Hussey in England and Ireland, Page\Park in Liverpool,
Gareth Hoskins competition entries in Warsaw and Riga, and RMJM expanding
fast in Russia with six projects reported. If we've missed someone please

10% Recycled
The Scottish Executive has called on institutions, from council to colleges,
to ensure that at least 10% of the total value of materials used on projects
over £1m should be derived from recycled and reused content. Apparently
Glasgow, Dundee, South Ayrshire and Aberdeen City Councils already specify
at least 10% recycled content in construction projects. This follows a
Scottish Executive announcement in July that new housing and other developments
should generate at least 10% of their energy on site from renewable sources.
Meanwhile Gordon Brown has made significant pledges re carbon neutral
housing in the UK: Sustainable
