Haymarket Development
Proposals attacked by Gina Davidson in the Evening News as taking the
whole issue to new heights of architectural vandalism
she
hopes the groundswell of public opinion will see this proposal thrown
out
and questions destroying the character of a place.
Haymarket as it stands though has very little character at present, certainly
it isnt very urban or indeed fitting for a major entry to a capital
city. Richard Murphys proposals create a strong and appropriate
sense of place. If you look at old photographs of the citys edge,
such as Leith Street, there is a density married to bustling life. Edinburgh
needs to regain this. Allan Murray and Malcolm Fraser are quoted with
warmth.

Living Roofs & Walls

Recently Scottish sustainability policy seems to have been following Londons
lead eg the Merton Rule, issues of on-site energy generation and
carbon reduction. Ken Livingstone has now announced a requirement for
living roofs and walls on all major developments where feasible.
