Rogers Wins Bridge Comp
Richard Rogers Architects were selected to design the new Glasgow bridge across the Clyde, images by Future Systems Architects / Mckeown Alexander, Lifschutz Davidson & gm+ad architects.
HBoS – the Mound
Malcolm Fraser Architects also announced as the architects for the Bank of Scotland Edinburgh HQ refurbishment above the Mound, including opening up the existing ceiling under the dome and thus changing the property into solely a headquarters with no branch.
Following the merger of the Halifax Building Society and the Bank of
Scotland MFA has been appointed for a major refurbishment of the Bank of Scotland Headquarters in Edinburgh.
Morrison Link proposals refused on 6 Nov by CEC Planning 6 votes to 5. Project by Reiach and Hall Architects for EDI reported to be refused partly due to mix of uses. The issue of an Architecture Centre was apparently discussed, possibly recalling the original AR competition. Allan Murray Architects and Page & Park Architects are also working on the site.
Briery Bank Back Again
A new planning application by Cala Homes for the 5 1/2 ha site for 60 houses to be built on the controversial Briery Bank site in Haddington, across the river from St Mary’s Haddington, has been submitted to East Lothian Council
Exhibition at Brunton Hall, Musselburgh extended until 17 Nov
Musselburgh Conservation Society claiming that rather than becoming part of Musselburgh, plans for development by Queen Margaret University College on a greenfield site near the city bypass give the impression that the institution is turning its back on the town to create an ‘inward looking, self-sufficient concentric campus.’
Nicoll Russell Studios in Edinburgh
Professor Rick Russell reported to be working on a site in the Southside following Benson + Forsyth’s Surgeons’ Hall ‘shelving’ exclusively reported on this site in Summer.
‘It is with sadness the RIAS report the death on 28 October of John Richards – a RIAS Past President, leading designer within one of Scotland’s largest practices, and a public figure having served in a senior capacity in a number of roles, most particularly in the housing sphere.’
