Boilerhouse Yard Images of V&A Boilerhouse Yard, design studies, London, including proposal by Edinburgh's Sutherland Hussey Architects. 18 Jun Scottish Home Awards Studio DuB have won the Designer House of the Year Award 2010 for a house at Craiglockhart Loan, Edinburgh. "A daring reinterpretation of the suburban house model", the house thoroughly convinced the judges who included Colin Cumberland, former chair of Homes for Scotland, Rufus Logan, Director of BRE Scotland, Raymond Young, former chair of A&DS and Margo Macdonald, MSP. Conversion of the Year was won by WTArchitecture for 33 Circus Lane, Edinburgh, a radical reworking of a basement in the World Heritage Site. WTArchitecture also scooped the Architectural excellence awards for the same project. Gordon Duffy of Studio DuB and Will Tunnell of WTArchitecture collected their respective awards, "gratified for the acclaim won by their relatively small practices up against heavy-weight competition". 18 Jun novo Ron Galloway Architects becomes Novo Design Studios, contact details updated at Edinburgh Architects page. 17 Jun Drill Hall Arts Centre photo from the architect City Architecture Office complete final phase of seven-year project to convert a former military building into an arts centre : Drill Hall Arts Centre Leith. 16 Jun Degree Shows Both of Edinburgh's architecture degree shows now open - see events. Having attended both opening nights it's obvious there is a large range of approaches. The craft and intensity of Dorian Wiszniewski's students at ESALA [Edinburgh School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture] was really impressive (we hope to post some material this week): intense detailed drawings, slick graphics, and wonderfully tactiles models. Upstairs there is Suzanne Ewing's students and on the top floor a mix of Dorian's and Suzanne's. Plenty more material up there of really excellent quality. The show seemed a little less graphicy than the last few years, a good balance of the fanciful and the grounded. Over at eca we found a room called SSA, a combination of art and architecture, this was rather intriguing.
