Bonars Restaurant, Haddington

Poldrate Brief Review:
Not as well known in some circles as the Waterside Bistro, changed owner in 2002. The food, wine and service on the night we first visited was really excellent, but two subsequent visits have been less convincing. The interior of the restaurant is a subtle refurbishment of a rubble-walled shell.

Addendum: a second visit for lunch was less enjoyable: we were the only diners in a cold dining room, the dishes were not as successful as the evening meal and the candlelit magic was gone; service was pleasant and the beef with red wine jus main course still the best on the menu.

Postscript - April 2002: changed hands, renamed Bonars
