Easter Bush Research Centre in Roslin
2008-
HDR CUH2A

For the Roslin Institute

The Easter Bush Campus will undertake top-class basic and translational science to tackle some of the most pressing issues in animal health and welfare, including implications for human health and for the role of animals throughout the food chain. This collocation project involving the Roslin Institute, the Scottish Agricultural College and the Royal Veterinary School of the University of Edinburgh, embodies a series of sustainable design principles, the intent of which is to achieve the lowest impact on the environment and the highest savings in non-renewable energy. Natural ventilation throughout the offices is made possible through the careful segregation of laboratories, enhancing the quality of the internal environment and signifi cantly reducing the building’s energy consumption and carbon footprint. In a DNA-inspired design, an interactive atrium links the linear “strands,” one housing labs and a parallel one housing offices.
