Address: 58 Thistle St, New Town Contact: +44 (0)131 225 5109 Location: between Frederick St & Hanover St, south side of the street Dining Review: Fishers in the City 5 Oct 2007 For some reason we were pushed into the furthest corner, placed in the rather plain space which lacks the atmosphere of the areas nearer the door. Service was abysmal, eventually (an unforgiveable 15 minutes after arrival) a waitress arrived and took a drinks order. About ten minutes later she came and took a food order, then asked for our drinks order again, she’d forgotten. The drinks arrived after about twenty minutes, pathetic. The adults were served first (chilled white wine) but the children's drinks didn't arrive for another 6 minutes. By the time the kids got their drinks (waiting to toast together our wine was now lukewarm) we'd decided never to go to Fishers in the City again. None of our five starters or five mains left us satisfied, much of the fish was lacking in taste and there was also a lack of energy or interest in the menu. If that was due to a mantra of ‘fresh fish done simply’ like Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall’s then bravo, but sadly that concept seemed unknown. If you do insist on dining here then we suggest asking for a table in the front space and be demanding of your waiting staff right from the start. Dining Review: Fisher's In the City 7 Nov 2008 Having read the review of Fisher's In the City on your website, I thought I'd let you know that my wife and I were there back in June and it was wonderful. I'm sorry the people who posted the review had a bad experience. The time of day may have been a factor. We went for lunch and the restaurant wasn't overly busy at the time. The food was excellent and the service was satisfactory.
