A PLACE IN THE COMMUNITY : CIVIC TRUST AWARDS 2004
The Civic Trust Awards 2004 have now been announced. Believed to be the
most diverse award scheme in Europe, the 2004 Civic Trust Awards recognise
the very best in architecture, planning, environmental design, landscape
and urban design. The Awards promote the positive impact that development
can have in improving quality of life in urban areas.
Out of the 41 Awards, 53 Commendations from the UK's urban areas, 8 of
the credited projects are in Scotland. Reiach and Hall Architects have
gained 2 of these highly coveted credits.
Both the Wolfson Medical School for the University of Glasgow and the
Westport, Evolution House project for AMA (New Town) Ltd. were honored
as "projects that reach the highest standards in terms of both their
design and their contribution to their environment". They "are
projects which make a difference to the community."
As one of the 2 award winners in Scotland, the Wolfson Medical School
joins projects which "are at the forefront of people-centred development
and show that there is much to celebrate in today's urban areas."
Both projects earn the praise levied by Vivienne Newlands, the Civic Trust
Awards Manager who notes that "The Civic Trust Awards prove not just
that high quality, inclusive development exists, but that we do not need
to settle for anything less. We are pleased to recognise those clients,
architects and developers who take a holistic view, and who should be
immensely proud of the places they create."
