Cosmo Ceramics' architectural division director, John Armit explains:
'Cosmo Ceramics initially became involved with the construction of the
original pool at Stobo Castle Health Spa, and we have maintained a strong,
close relationship as we believe in providing a hands on after care service
for our clients.
'The Stobo Castle Spa project required low maintenance, practical but
highly aesthetically pleasing tiles. Iris Marmi i Graniti, slip resistant
floor tiles have been used throughout the spa in all the changing areas,
pool surrounds and treatment rooms as well as in the hairdressers and
nail bar. The result is a glorious but safe environment where guests can
enjoy the legendary pampering. Tiles used within the spa area are all
fully vitrified porcelain, which are complemented by Bisazza, glass wall
mosaics in restful shades of aubergine and grape.
'Colour schemes for the rooms and tiles were chosen after careful consideration.
Although the interior of Stobo Castle Health Spa was to be modernised
it was still vital to maintain the 18th century ambience. Rosa Portagallo
floor tiles, which have an antique finish have been used throughout the
treatment areas to produce a calming, natural look and feel while the
palette of aubergine and grape coloured mosaics within the pool areas
create a clean modern look.'
The 2,000 sqm Stobo Castle extension includes the showpiece 25 metre,
Ozone treated pool, the only one of its kind in Scotland, which reduces
chemical usage causing no irritation to skin or eyes.
Ron Cameron, the Stobo Castle Health Spa project consultant architect
said:
'I have an established professional relationship with Cosmo Ceramics and
I knew that they would deliver an efficient, reliable service for Stobo
Castle. The client and I went to Italy with John Armit and Rodolfo Benacci,
Chairman of Cosmo Ceramics, to review all the new products and styles
of tiles and mosaics on offer. Following the visit to Italy we made a
selection of tiles for Stobo Castle Spa with Cosmo Ceramics to meet our
requirements.
'Cosmo Ceramics kept me fully up to date with the latest product information
that may be used in the project, made recommendations and provided technical
advice when necessary.'
