Waterfront, Granton
Llewelyn-Davies was commissioned in 1999 to draw up a Master Plan for
Waterfront Granton to serve as planning guidance for the future development
of this magnificent waterfront. The City Council adopted the plan in January
2001 as the development framework for the waterfront. The Master Plan
provides a bold vision to open up Edinburgh's Waterfront and transport
it into a destination and place in its own right while relating to the
surrounding communities and aiding their regeneration. Extensive consultation
has taken place with local community groups, stakeholders and the general
public in evolving the proposals.
The Granton Master Plan is designed to:
Deliver a comprehensive and viable regeneration plan which will help reinforce
Edinburgh's role as a major International City - a Waterfront City;
Propose enough new development to support a high-quality, higher density
living and working environment which can help to make Waterfront Granton
buzz and come to life; and
Ensure that the redevelopment of Waterfront Granton is fully integrated
-socially as well as physically - with the neighbouring communities of
North Edinburgh and that it will contribute to their regeneration.
The Edinburgh Waterfront Master Plan provides a basis for the development
of:
5,000 - 6,500 new homes, with at least 1,000 affordable properties for
rent and sale;
Up to 340,000m2 of business space in a wide variety of forms;
20,000 - 27,000 m2 of general industrial floorspace;
Potential sites for university or college campuses; and
A wide range of ancillary community, cultural, retail, leisure and entertainment
uses.
