CALA Receives Approval for Three Major City Developments with a Value
of £130 Million
Edinburgh-based CALA Homes received committee approval for two major residential
developments in Edinburgh today (Wednesday 29th March) including one on
the highly sought-after site currently occupied by the Scottish Agricultural
Science Agency (SASA).
The leading developer was also granted permission for a third significant
development in the city last week. Together, the developments have a sales
value in excess of £130 million.
CALA is to build 277 homes on the SASA site which is located in East Craigs,
near Corstorphine, and four miles west of Edinburgh city centre. The development
will be ideally placed near to the new Royal Bank of Scotland global headquarters
at Gogar and the amenities of the Gyle Shopping Centre.
The company was also given permission for 79 homes at Pinkhill in Corstorphine
on the site of the former National Air Traffic Services (NATS) office
building. The site is excellently placed with views of Edinburgh Castle,
the Pentland Hills and the adjacent Carricknowe Golf Course.
Last Wednesday (22nd March), CALA also received the green light for a
contemporary development featuring 89 homes at East Fettes Avenue on the
site of the former Christian Salvesen offices which faces south towards
Edinburgh Castle.
Each development includes an element of affordable housing.
Gerry More, Managing Director, CALA Homes (East) Limited says:
We are delighted to receive planning permission for these three
major city developments which will further enhance our excellent portfolio
in Edinburgh which currently includes Greenbank Village near
Morningside, Signature in The Grange and Capricorn
in the city centre. Each of the new developments will similarly offer
homebuyers a superb choice of attractive and well-designed accommodation
in a desirable location.
These developments will also provide a boost to the Edinburgh economy
by creating much needed private and affordable housing, as well as generating
in excess of one hundred jobs over the four to five year development programme.
Further Details of these CALA Homes developments:
East Craigs
CALAs development at East Craigs will feature 277 homes including
detached properties, contemporary apartments, mews homes and flexible
three storey townhouses. In addition, CALA will refurbish the existing
Craigs House into elegant apartments.

The properties, which also include 40 affordable homes, are arranged around
a series of avenues which exploit the prestigious location and the open
views to the west across the city and the countryside to the north.
The development is also ideally placed close to the airport and the transport
network in and out of the city.
Pinkhill
CALAs development at Pinkhill will feature a wide range of accommodation
including a mix of one, two, three and four bedroom apartments, together
with a small number of townhouses. The majority of the 79 homes will boast

An internal courtyard, underground parking and other design features further
enhance the character of this high quality residential development.
The development will also include eleven affordable homes.
East Fettes Avenue
The contemporary development at East Fettes Avenue will feature 89 homes
all benefiting from the excellent location, which looks out to Edinburgh
Castle and which is close to some superb amenities including the highly
regarded Fettes College, the Royal Botanic Gardens Edinburgh and Inverleith
Park.
The development has been designed to improve and enhance the existing
site which itself nestles within the Inverleith Conservation Area. It
will comprise 12 three storey townhouses and 58 one, two and three bedroom
apartments, the majority of which will capitalise on the southerly aspect
of the location.
The apartments, which include eight penthouses, have been designed within
four attractive apartment buildings with balconies offering magnificent
views over the playing fields and across the city skyline.
The townhouses, which have a variety of sizes, are the focal point along
the central terrace and will have their own private gardens, private garages
and driveway.
A further 19 affordable homes complete the accommodation on the development.
Bordered by existing mature trees, the development will also feature high
quality landscaped grounds creating a 'parkland setting'. The majority
of car parking will be located underground.
