GLASGOW: The DDA and Inclusive Design – an access consultant’s perspective
9 Jul 12 - 2pm
Venue: Buchanan House, seminar rm K505, 58 Port Dundas Rd
In this seminar Iain will look at the legislative side of accessibility in the built environment as well as the principles of inclusive design, highlighting the importance of both in delivering accessible environments that work well for all end users.

Iain will discuss the Disability Discrimination Acts 1995 and 2005 (DDA) and the Disability Equality Duty (DED). He will also touch on the relevant sections of the Building Regulations in Scotland as well as England, the British Standards and other good practice guidance readily used by access consultants. The talk will include information on BS EN 8300:2009 an update to BS8300:2001 - The approved CoP for access to buildings for needs of disabled people.

He will then discuss how the principles of inclusive design can help to achieve superior solutions in the built environment that benefit everyone when integrated into the overall design process from the outset.
