The Haddington Town House steeple was replaced in 1831 by James Gillespie Graham. The bell in the steeple rings at 7am and again at 10pm to suggest waking and bed-time. This curfew-bell has rung since 1532 and is a wonderful tradition to be kept alive. ![]() street view © Adrian Welch Haddington was made a royal burgh by David I in the 12th century and was the birthplace of Alexander II and John Knox. ![]() steeple photo © Adrian Welch Other local buildings / projects: St Mary's Church Briery Meadows Waterside Restaurant & Bistro, Haddington Scottish Castles Scottish Country Houses Edinburgh & Lothian Walking Tours Scottish Churches Lauriston Castle was extended by William Burn Haddington Buildings Edinburgh : back to index Comments / photos for the Haddington Town House Architecture page welcome: info@edinburgharchitecture.co.uk Haddington Town House Building : page - adrian welch / isabelle lomholt |
