Halliday Fraser Munro strengthens Edinburgh presence after being awarded £150m city construction projects

Architectural and planning practice Halliday Fraser Munro has strengthened its presence in Edinburgh after being appointed to work on over £150m worth of new construction projects in the city. The firm has moved into a new city centre office to create closer connections with clients developing a raft of new-build projects in the residential, education and care home sectors.

Under the leadership of managing director David Halliday, the firm has recently won contracts for several high-profile projects, including a 450-home new build scheme at Longniddry and an affordable housing scheme and care home for Midlothian Council at Dalkeith.

Halliday Fraser Munro has had a presence in the Haymarket area for 20 years, but the speed and growth of recent contract wins has allowed the company to re-evaluate its long-term position in the city.

Mr Halliday has invested in Edinburgh to drive forward the firm’s expansion in the central belt, with fellow directors Michael Halliday, Richard Woods and Jet Cameron also joining the firm to expand specific expertise in planning, residential, commercial and education projects.

Mr Halliday said: “The decision to move into new premises in Melville Street has been a strategic one based on our long-term vision for Edinburgh. We are currently working on over £150m worth of construction projects in the city, and we see this increasing as we further grow our presence in the capital and add to our skilled team.

“There is a sustained pipeline of work to come, but we have had a long history of delivering outstanding projects in Edinburgh over the past 20 years, including sensitive redevelopment Niddrie Mill Primary School, Bridgend Inspiring Growth and Stewart Aparthotel in the city centre, along with masterplanning for the 120-acre Queensferry One site at Rosyth, combining manufacturing, distribution and office space.

“We provide excellence across many different sectors, and we believe that our strength lies in the fact that we are a boutique design practice offering the capability to deliver large-scale projects and a tailored service to our clients.”

In Longniddry, the firm has worked with Cruden Homes (East) Ltd to create 450 new homes, along with associated open spaces, designed to reflect the character of the historical architecture of East Lothian.

Halliday Fraser Munro was appointed by Cramond and Harthill Estate to masterplan the £250m Cammo development, which was recently received full planning permission. The firm also won the £14m Midlothian Council project for 50 new build homes and a 40-bed intermediate care facility at Newmills road in Dalkeith.

Halliday Fraser Munro is an award-winning firm offering architectural, urban design and masterplanning services along with a specialised planning consultancy team. It has offices in Aberdeen, Dundee, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds, London and Belfast. Further information is available at www.hfm.co.uk
