Housing estate on eastern perimeter of Haddington: interesting social architecture threaded through with mix of hard & soft landscaping celebrating the fall across the site. Mostly three and four bedroom houses with two terraces of flats, all centred on park/playground shown in pictures right:
Featured in various architecture magazines in the sixties plans commenced in 2003 for some refurbishment. The redevelopment was partly completed but stalled in early 2008. The proliferation of bluish brick low walls of various heights have lasted the last forty years well but need restoration. The houses step back and forth in a modern interpretation of traditional terraces.
'Riverside Project': Riverside Drive & Place + Abbots View - initial public meeting Dec 2003 re £1.5m (initially 500k) improvements planned for housing estate in 2004-2005; landscaping to begin on the estate in Apr 2005.
The title Amisfield Park appears to be in doubt but came from the architects, feedback welcome. Work being carried out by Urban Design Futures for East Lothian Council.
