North British Distillery Redevelopment Due to complete Nov 2007 Original architect: William Kininmonth Location: Westfield Road, Gorgie Keppie Design submitted plans Jun 2007 for erection of Retail (Class 1) development with related access, service area, and car parking at Land To Rear Of 5 - 37 Westfield Road for Forrest Development Ltd The North British Distillery Co Whisky Bond, Gorgie Demolition of this building Oct-Dec 2006 The North British Distillery Company has owned the large concrete whisky bonded warehouses by architect William Kininmonth on Westfield Road, Gorgie, since the 1950s. The Whisky Bonds are set to be demolished to allow the Distillery Company to concentrate its warehousing operations at its base in Addiewell, West Lothian. The Distillers had a "preferred developer" for the Westfield Road site, but Tesco put in its own planning application for the land, proposing a 24-hour 67,000sq ft store development in the Westfield Road area. Landmark Bond Demo Powerful Modern whisky warehouse set to be replaced by Sainsbury’s Jan 03 In Jan 2003 Malcolm Fraser attacked plans to tear down the North British Distillery Company (NBDC) warehouse in Gorgie to make way for a £30m development in Westfield Road, namely a Sainsbury’s supermarket, shops, 28 homes and a restaurant. A pedestrianised street is proposed from Gorgie Road to the supermarket entry. Forrest Developments, and NBDC, which is transferring its storage facilities out of Edinburgh, submitted a planning application with Edinburgh City Council.
