Wm Morrison Supermarkets plc, ForthQuarter, Granton, Edinburgh

Waterfront Edinburgh - Morrisons PR

Supermarket group Morrisons proposed a store (two miles away from one proposed by Asda in Leith in October 2004) on the site of the former Granton Gas Works, Edinburgh in late August 2004.
The 90,000sq ft Wm Morrison Supermarket’s new Granton store is proposed for the junction of West Granton Road and Waterfront Avenue.
Wm Morrisons – based in the North of England – is the favourite to win the
takeover battle for Safeway Supermarket. They beat off strong competition to build on the ForthQuarter site and is part of a strategic expansion into Scotland. It is scheduled to be opened in 2005. Morrisons will open its first Scottish market in Kilmarnock.
Second Site, formerly known as Lattice, has a portfolio of around 1,500 buildings the UK.

SecondSite Property Holdings Ltd has reached an agreement that will see the

The ForthQuarter, SecondSite Property's flagship site, is a major element in
the overall regeneration of north Edinburgh. In addition to the local retail centre, the ForthQuarter'¹ mixed uses include:

Commenting on the news. SecondSite's Stewart Macintrye said " We are very
pleased to be able to announce this agreement with Morrisons . We will work
closely with them to develop a joint planning application for the First Phase of this Local Centre, and are confident that their success in acquiring a development site at our land in the ForthQuarter will result in a top class facility for the local and developing communities".
