Scottish Capital - Guide to Architecture in southeast Scotland
Edinburgh Tour
We've selected what we feel are the key examples of Edinburgh Architecture. We aim to include buildings that are either of top quality or interesting, or ideally both. We cover completed buildings, new building designs, architectural exhibitions and architecture competitions across the Scottish capital.
HISTORIC CORE: Edinburgh Old Town - medieval centre: Castle, Royal Mile, Cathedral, Parliament, Palace, University buildings
Edinburgh New Town - Georgian buildings set within original 1760's plan, city centre
OUTER EDINBURGH & LOTHIAN: Lothian Road - new business district just west of the city centre, mostly new office buildings
Leith - booming Dock regeneration area, north-east of the city, good for cafes & bars
Edinburgh Park - also called the Gyle, masterplanned by architect Richard Meier, west edge of the city, business park - mostly office buildings
Edinburgh Environs - basically anywhere not listed above, around the capital's villages, suburbs & the Lothians

Edinburgh Walking Tours - description of the key buildings in the capital:

Walking Tours since 2001. The most popular walking tour is in the Old Town - we do a range of tours from 2 to 4 hours long and can vary the emphasis from traditioanl to contemporary buildings.
We can arrange accommodation for tours in contemporary quality hotels, dining in a range of good restaurants and suggested evening entertainment, ie the whole package for a fee. We can also provide walking tours information on programme, geographical areas and building types up to a year ahead of trips. For example a group of architects interested in a tour re innovative social housing could be provided with tailored information allowing a programme to be agreed prior to their visit. We can also arrange short talks by architects.
If you only have half a day we suggest you do the Old Town. If you have a whole day do the Old Town and the New Town. If you have transport we suggest you visit the 'unmissable' buildings in the full Edinburgh Architecture Tour
