EDINBURGH HOUSING GOES BACK TO ITS ROOTS
Edinburgh’s unique colony-style housing is set to make a comeback in a new South Queensferry development which aims to create a neighbourhood with a sense of community.

Parr Architects, working on behalf of Capital City Homes, has recently gained planning permission for the project, which was inspired by the colonies of 19th Century Edinburgh. Capital City Homes is part of the Places for People Group, a not-for-profit organisation, committed to creating high quality mixed tenure neighbourhoods that are sympathetic to the environment.
The project will see the creation of a community that is sustainable in every sense of the word, with strong neighbourly bonds, flexible and adaptable housing, and efficient and environmentally friendly buildings. ‘Home Zone’ design principles have been used with the aim of creating a pedestrian-friendly environment while maintaining an urban feel, and a central square providing a focal point for the development.
