MANORLANE SUBMIT PLANNING FOR £54M DEVELOPMENT AT BLACKRIDGE
15 Mar 2006
Blackridge Manorlane Housing, West Lothian
Manorlane, the prestigious Scottish housebuilder, has submitted planning permission to West Lothian Council for a £54m development near Blackridge.
The 300-unit development will comprise a mixture of 2-bed apartments and 3, 4 and 5-bed detached homes. The development, if planning is granted, will see Manorlane provide an element of social housing for West Lothian Council and also see Manorlane contribute to the local facilities in the area to accommodate the needs the existing and new residents.
A contribution to local education will be made which will allow for a new primary school and an extension to Blackridge Primary and new secondary school at Armadale. In addition, land will also be made available for a new health centre adjacent to the site.
Elliot Robertson, Chief Executive, Manorlane, said: “Our proposals for Blackridge will bring great benefits to the area in terms of new housing and facilities for the local community. Manorlane is currently setting a new standard in house building, we don’t just build new homes, we create communities people are proud to be a part of.”
Platform Blackridge Railway Stop
An important aspect of the application is the weight that it carries in terms of support for ‘Platform Blackridge’, the proposed railway stop for the village which is to be raised in a private bill being submitted to the Scottish Executive later this year with regard to the new Bathgate to Airdrie line.
Elliot continued: “With the potential addition of 300 new dwellings at Blackridge, the case for a train stop on the new Airdrie to Bathgate line has been strengthened, the new development would introduce new income to the local economy and new commuters who would use the station.”
Local Councillor, Duncan Maclean, said: “I welcome this proposal from Manorlane and look forward to the addition of new dwellings at Blackridge. A new housing development would inject some new life into the village and the benefits to the local economy will greatly enhance the community.”
If the application is successful, Manorlane anticipates the first phase at Blackridge will be completed by Spring 2007.
