Edinburgh Park Railway Station
The Right Honourable Jack McConnell MSP First Minister of Scotland today officially opened the new railway station at Edinburgh Park, making Edinburgh Park the first business park in Scotland to have its own railway station.
The £4.5m Edinburgh Park Station facility was delivered via a partnership between City of Edinburgh Council and New Edinburgh Limited, working with ScotRail, Network Rail and the Strategic Rail Authority.
Councillor Andrew Burns, Executive Member for Transport and Public Realm at the City of Edinburgh Council said: “Today’s opening is great news for commuters in the west of Edinburgh, who now have easy access to the Park and the surrounding area – which currently suffers from the weight of heavy congestion. Delivery of the station for these commuters has been made possible via a partnership with a number of key organisations, and each has had a valuable role in what has been a complex project.”
Ian Wall, Director of New Edinburgh Limited, the developer of Edinburgh Park, said: “The new Edinburgh Park station will provide a valuable amenity for those working in and around Edinburgh Park. We are the first business park in Scotland to have its own railway station, and this along with a number of other initiatives involving transport and community, will go a long way to making Edinburgh Park a more attractive place to work as well as boosting the investment and commercial potential of the development.”
“This is the eighth new station to open on the ScotRail network since National Express took on the franchise in 1997,” says ScotRail Managing Director Peter Cotton. “We’re delighted that all the hard work behind the scenes by all of the partners in the project has come to such splendid fruition.
Edinburgh Park is only nine minutes from Waverley, twelve from Linlithgow, and 23 from Newcraighall in the east of the capital so commuters now have a fast and convenient alternative to the daily grind by road. And ScotRail’s making it even easier with money saving season ticket offers to kick-start the train habit.”
